Mel is a Dartmoor hill pony who arrived as a foal with her friends Brent and Toran in summer 2012, rescued by Mary Tyrer of Dartmoor Ponies and Equines after the annual round-up. Each year the ponies living wild on Dartmoor are rounded up and most are sent to a meat market but charities like Dartmoor Ponies make big efforts to save as many as possible. We were able to buy three that year and they quickly realised humans could be friendly. Mel took a little longer to trust people than the other two but she is now a riding school favourite.
