Apache

Apache was a spunky little pony who suffered terribly from Sweet Itch when she came. We managed it for a few years with stabling and constant applications of lotions. This was before there were Sweet Itch rugs for small ponies.

She was a talented pony and had a few devoted young riders but when they grew too big for her she was unhappy with beginners and decided to retire. The interesting thing was that once she was no longer being asked to do any work the Sweet Itch all but vanished with only a small area on her tail still needing protection. This would seem to suggest that in, Apache's case at least, the condition was exacerbated by the stress of being ridden, although she was never worked hard and never showed any other signs of tension.

She enjoyed a long retirement with free access to the yard and all the tracks around the fields.
